The Trustees have discretion to make grants to provide items, services or facilities to individuals, and to organisations which support them.

 

All applications must be verified and countersigned by a sponsor before submission.  Suitable sponsors may include a social worker, minister of religion, healthcare professional, teacher,  Clapham Relief Fund Trustee or someone of similar standing who knows the applicant.

 

Notes for completing the application form

 

1.    Before completing the form, please make sure that you live in the qualifying area. Trustees may be prepared to consider applications from those living close to the boundaries.

 

2.  The Trustees will not consider more than one application per person per year.

 

3. Assistance will normally only be granted where funding is not available from public sources (e.g. local authority or government department).

 

4. Grants to individuals are normally up to a maximum of £300, but where the request is for more the Trustees may make a contribution towards the total cost.  Grants to organisations to fund specific projects can be greater in value.

 

5. Grants will not be made to repay debts already incurred by the applicant.

 

6. Applications will be considered at meetings of the Trustees, whose decision is final.  Meetings are held quarterly, usually in early March, June, September and December.  Dates of forthcoming meetings are on the Home page.  Completed application forms should be submitted at least ten days before the meetings.  In exceptional circumstances applications may be considered at other times by the Chair and Treasurer.  Such applications should state clearly the reason for the urgency.

 

7. All questions on the application form must be answered. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and used solely for the purpose of assessing need.

 

8. We have an arrangement with the charity Emmaus, which stocks a wide range of household furniture, white goods and other essentials at its superstore in West Norwood.  This option is suitable for those who are in need of a number of items.
